The Community Connections service will be held at the Masonic hall, 43 Kingsway, Cronulla, at 9.30am and will be presided over by Sutherland Shire councillor George Capsis in his capacity as a Baptist minister.

“This service is for people who may be disillusioned with established religious for some reason,” Mr Capsis said.

“My aim is to reach out to these people who won’t commit to going to an established church but still have spiritual hunger in their lives.”

Numbers have been growing steadily since Cr Capsis started his monthly Community Connections services in January.

“We set out chairs for 25 people at the first service and 50 turned up,” he said.

“Hopefully we will get double that number on Good Friday. Everyone is welcome.

“Easter is like Christmas. There is a lot of loneliness out there at holiday time. Jesus came here and connected with the normal people, many who were outside of the religious establishment of the time.

“It is the same today. Many people don’t quite understand what the message of the gospel is about, that God loves us and cares for our lives individually.

“It is not a matter of being religious but of accepting the love of God.

“Hopefully, we can be a bridge to the community back to the normal church service.”
