They played an amazing game on the weekend to earn their spot and contest the 2012 premiership.

They were definitely on their game and went onto the field determined to beat their opposition.

Captain-coach, Coby Meehan steered his troops from the bench due to an injury suffered the week before and couldn’t have been more proud of his boys.

He is confident he will be back on deck for the game this weekend.

Magpies’ veteran Mick Hughes captained the side in Meehan’s absence and played his heart out in the victory.

The Magpies followed Hughes’s lead and showed pride and passion in their team mates and backed each other upfor the entire match.

It was a physical game between the two sides and the quality of the rugby league didn’t disappoint the crowd.

The Magpie’s went into the game as underdogs, but they soon changed that with a stellar performance against the Tigers.

It was great to see the Magpies’ confidence and aggression return for this game.

Stand-outs for the Magpies were Joe Howe, who played a blinder leading the charge up-front, along with offsider Grant Schubert, who is a real asset to the Mapgies’ game with his experience and talent.

Zac McKiernan ran the ball up out of dummy half, getting away some great offloads. He was hammered by the opposition but continued to stick it out and show how dedicated he is to his team.

The backs were on fire also, with Ben Jackson, Tom Stevenson, Sam Drew and Luke Dufty all playing outstandingly. Drew and Dufty, who scored two tries, showed brilliance in their attack and were all class when the ball was in hand.

It was a great battle between two of the top sides of the season and it was good to have a nice close game.

Congratulations to Comboyne for their fine season and for making it this far.

The Magpies were the better side on the day and got on top of their opposition when it counted.

They will give the minor premiers a good run for their money in the grand final.

This Saturday will be a huge day for the Hastings League and rugby league fans, with the Bun Hayward Cup the first highlight of the day.

This game will kick off at 1pm and will be contested between the Kendall Blues and the Port Boardriders.

The Boardriders defeated the Beech-wood Shamrocks on Saturday to gain their spot in the final for the cup against the Blues.

The main game will then follow at 3pm between the Lower Macleay Magpies and the Lake Cathie Raid-ers.

It will be a cracker of a game between the two teams and it’s any ones for the taking.

The Magpies urge everyone from the Macleay to come down and show your support and get behind them in their quest for a second premiership in this league.

The last premiership the Magpies won was in 2010. It will be a cracker game of rugby league between the two sides this time round.

After the game the Magpies will head back to major sponsor the Heritage Hotel, in Gladstone, to celebrate their season and hopefully a premiership.

The Magpies would like to thank their sponsors for their support.
