Adults and children can learn some of his amazing circus skills at Hoopla Festival at Darling Harbour over the Easter long weekend.

The festival is Australia’s biggest circus, sideshow and street theatre festival and has some of the world’s best acrobats, stunt daredevils, sideshow superstars, trapeze masters, jugglers, clowns and fire eaters.

Sidlow’s circus playground is a giant inflatable circus dome which will have an interactive circus workshop where you can learn to juggle, play with diabolos, devil sticks, stilts, rola bolas, twirling things, hula hoops, walking beams and hand-held stilts, all under the supervision of professional instructors in a safe environment.

Sidlow, 42, who runs the Circus Work Playground, said he had learnt juggling from his mother as a child, and later studied nuclear physics at Bath University in England.

He said he played music for a circus band after he had finished university.

“I picked up skills and it came naturally,” he said.

“I always loved dressing up. A lot of your training is play, and you practise it. If you have a good attitude you get to a very good standard.

“When I came to Australia at 24 I found there was not really a circus niche here. The idea of the playground is to give parents and children the chance to play with circus toys; it’s a real confidence boost.”
