A good week to be a surfer in Cronulla.

Today’s 4ft swell is a sign of things to come with the whole week guaranteed to have good waves.

Swellnet says the surf should pick to 4-6ft over the next couple of days with offshore winds early with the winds tending easterly.

The weekend will still have waves even though it will be a little smaller.

As you might be able to tell by now, I am a thousand kms away from Cronulla and are making this all up from various sources, so I don’t know what the banks are like at all.

Maybe one of you readers can help us out and let us know where the waves are – maybe Elouera?

I am in Melbourne, where Bells is also on, with smallish waves (3-4ft) yesterday for the first round.

Joel Parkinson, (2011 ASP World Runner-Up and defending Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach winner), continued to show the world why he is regarded as one of the finest surfers ever to step foot in the Bells Bowl, coming back from an inconsistent heat to post an excellent 9.27 out of a possible 10 and advance directly to Round 3.

Unofficial Rip Curl Pro surf forecasters, Swellnet, are predicting 4-5ft waves with light N/NW winds, tending variable during the afternoon.

Today’s pics are also cheating, because I spent most of last week at the Gold coast in somewhat tragic circumstances where I was shooting the Surf life saving titles at Kurrawa/ Nth Kirra.

There was plenty of swell and the points were pumping, Burleigh,Snapper,The Alley and on the day after MP died Kirra was classic.

I might do a little retrospective next week on MP because he had a major influence on Cronulla in the seventies.

I had a classic session at 8-10ft Kirra in 1980 with MP.

Myself and Greg Coulter paddled from Rainbow to be the only guys out until joined by MP who just paddled through us like a train and owned the wave.

I still own the board I surfed that day (found in a clean up 20 years later). That’s about all I ever owned!

Ok so better report next week when I shall return, any of you guys want to help out feel free but remember Easter normally provides good surf so get amongst it.
