Call to tree lovers

I CANNOT ignore your Mac Cott’s warning (SHN 24/8/12) of “natives-only evangelic activity” being practiced and, perhaps, further contemplated within our shire.

He referred to “a move to remove” liquid ambers in Wingello and to the previously “decimated Cunningham Park at Sutton Forest”, an incident not yet explained to my satisfaction.

Our shire has a Register of Significant Trees. There are 260 trees or groups of trees on that list.

More than 125 of those listed, including the magnificant oaks in Staion Street, Bowral, are on public land. Theoretically, they are accessible to such “evangelic activity” unless “we nip it in the bud”.

I encourage all of your tree-loving readers to voice their concern to you (editor)/Mac Cott.

Although the current council has announced that “it will not happen” during their term, we need to consider what may occur in September.
