Mark and Grace make rep squad

TWO Kempsey swimmers have been selected in the Australian Youth Performance Squad (YPS) for 2012.

They are Grace Ryan, who achieved a silver level and Mark Thurgood a bronze level.

Their times achieved between May 2011 and April 2012 were amongst the fastest for their age groups.

The program is in recognition of the hard work and dedication they put into their training.

The swimming duo received a gift pack as well as ongoing information and support.

The Kempsey Swimming Club will start their season on Tuesday, October 9.

There will be an information night, registrations and barbecue. Club nights start at 6pm and and cater for swimmers from four year old.

Members can compete in events both scratch and handicap in distances from 25m upwards.

The Club has been allocated two major meets by Swimming North Coast this season.

The first will be held Saturday, November 3 and will be a Development Meet.

This is aimed at introducing swimmers to a competitive arena rather than in high pressure competition.

The Club will again host the Heats of the NSW Speedo Sprint Series as well as a Sprint Qualifying Meet on Saturday, February 2 next year.

Meantime any swimmers interested in training squads, these are now being conducted by Tony and Heather and enquiries should be directed to the McElhone Memorial Pool complex.
