It was one of 125 organisations in Australia to receive an Employer of Choice for Women citation by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency year.

The agency is the statutory authority within the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs that administers the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999.

It works with employers to improve equal opportunity outcomes for women by building strategic partnerships and leading public debate on equal opportunity.

The agency’s director Helen Conway described those organisations that received citations as “trailblazers in the war for talent”.

Calvary chief executive Karen Edwards said the hospital was committed to gender equality in employment and had a significant female workforce, with women well represented in all levels of management.

She said Calvary had initiated a range of learning and development programs for staff in the past year that recognised the need to provide flexible work and learning opportunities.
