YVONNE Wallace, 26, doesn’t look to high-class designers, celebrities or glossy magazines for fashion inspiration. It is the everyday woman who holds the greatest influence.

The stylist from Cronulla works with Westfield by helping to create seasonal looks from head to toe.

After a stint in marketing and public relations, Yvonne got her break into the fashion industry after she wrapped up her studies in visual merchandising and styling.

She always knew she wanted to do something more creative.

“Actual real-life styling, people asking advice, sharing ideas about what trends are hot for different body shapes — I love it,” Ms Wallace said.

“What we’re seeing now is a big focus on print clashes.

“There’s also a lot of boho, and bright block colours that we saw in summer coming through in winter, in more of a ladylike ’60s style.

“For years I wore black, but I’ve really embraced colour.”

Yvonne, who also teaches at The Fashion Institute, Surry Hills, said a lot of women “played it too safe” with style.

“Many dress older than they are because they are scared of dressing too young,” she said. “But I do like the way we dress in the shire — everyone likes to have fun but they are still quite relaxed and comfortable, and don’t take it too seriously, which is nice. I like to people-watch from cafes in Cronulla.”

Miss Sydney

CRONULLA beauty queen Kirsten Dee, 20, has won the Miss Sydney Australia pageant.

Held at Sharkies, Cronulla, last month, the competition brought 12 finalists to the stage. Kirsten, a part-time model and shop assistant, is now signed to Scoop Management.

With Jennifer Hawkins as her idol, Kirsten said she hoped her win would lead to travel opportunities in the modelling world. She also won Miss Indy and Miss Hawaiian Tropic National this year.
