Seniors receive awards

SOUTHERN Sydney residents were among the 60 winners of this year’s NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards.

Volunteers Michael O’Connell, of Arncliffe, and Noel Parkinson, of Caringbah, received an award in the Community Service category and Suzanne Medway, of Banksia, took home an award in the Environment, Science and Agriculture division.

Mr O’Connell, 84, has been a volunteer driver with the Sisters of Charity Outreach Community Care for more than 10 years.

Mr Parkinson, 67, is a full-time volunteer with Marine Rescue NSW, and Mrs Medway, 61, is a volunteer with the Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia.

“These people display a wide variety of skills, energy and enthusiasm and truly Live Life which is the theme of Seniors Week,” Ageing Minister Andrew Constance said.

“They unselfishly give their time to help and improve the lives of others.

“I am honoured to able to recognise their achievements.”
