Telstra is calling on Stawell anddistrict residents to dig deep into their desk drawers to retrieve old mobilephones and accessories.

These phones and accessories can beleft at Australia Post outlets.

Telstra Country Wide Area GeneralManager for South West Victoria, Bill Mundy, said more than 22 million unwantedmobile phones are lying around Australian homes.

“Recycling mobile phones helpsprevent pollution and protect our environment by keeping them out of landfill,and it’s an easy way for us all to do something green,” Mr Mundy said.

“It will only take a few minutes tosearch through desks, drawers and boxes, but the long-term environmentalbenefits are important for current and future generations.”

Mr Mundy said recycling old mobile phones andaccessories was a great way to protect the environment.

“By dropping off your mobile phones,batteries, chargers and accessories, you’re enabling over 90 per cent of thesematerials to be recycled, with the components used to create products foreveryday use, like fence posts, batteries and stainless steel,” he said.

“All items collectedthrough MobileMuster are recycled and are not re-used or refurbished. We,however suggest, customers remove their SIM card and delete personalinformation from handsets before recycling.”
